FEBRUARY is National Inclusive Education Month! It is the time when members of the Community Living movement and its many partners work together to create and promote awareness about inclusive education.
Inclusive education sees every child attending school in age-appropriate, regular classes where they are supported to learn, to participate and to thrive in every aspect of the life of the school. Legally speaking, every child has the right to an education. Under the Education Act, there is a formal process to trigger special education services where a child is formally identified and placed through a process called the Identification Placement and Review Committee (IPRC). PooranLaw specializes in assisting families in navigating this process and beyond to ensure that every child thrives in school. This includes evaluating legal strategies for obtaining the appropriate services and supports in the educational environment as well as evaluating options up to and including an application to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
