Let’s Talk: Good Mental Health For People with Developmental Disabilities and Their Families

Dr. Yona Lunsky is working on a project for CAMH, which would also be used as part of Bell Let’s Talk in mid-February.

David Hingsburger is interested in collecting ideas from people with developmental disabilities and families about what mental health means to them and why it is so important for us to talk about it. The project is hoping that people could send in quotes, pictures, art work, or anything that expresses something about mental health.

It could be an activity you do to have good mental health, or to feel happy or deal with stress. It could be what is wrong with mental health services now, how we could make them better. It could be about something helpful someone has done for you, or something helpful you do for yourself.

Answer questions like:

  • Why is mental health important?
  • To help myself feel better I… or…
  • I take care of my mental health by…
  • It is hard when…
  • It helps me when…
  • Sometimes I feel…

These are just a few ideas. But anyone who sends us a photo, drawing or quote, we will try to put them together into a slide show, and also share them on social media. Imagine if we got hundreds of people telling us why this is important!

So if you have an idea, something you want to share, you can send it to hcardd@camh.ca
