Hi, Staceyd,
Running with other kids is good for young children to have fun with others. They may just do parallel playing and then interact with each other if they find common interests. Some kids may find their own friends with whom they play.
It’s ok if they feel happy to be with others and others’ reactions impact the kid’s playing actions. Children with autism may ignore others or teacher’s instructions, some of them may feel overwhelmed if they are surrounded by other kids.
parents can be a mediator helping kids interact with each other. For example, parents may tell the child to “take turns” with other kids while they are playing see-saw.
