New Polaris Progam

Are you supporting someone who is aging and straining your resources due to their changing needs?

Pegasus has created a new program for people with developmental disabilities who are experiencing needs due to aging. We call this new program Polaris.

We have found a great location in an amazing neighbourhood and have had it renovated to make it a warm, welcoming, and accessible space. We are now open and offering programming which is specifically geared to this population, along with a smaller Participant group and staff to participant ratio.

Polaris offers programming focused on maintaining current abilities with a strong focus on healthy lifestyles; from healthy cooking and eating, range of movement, to strength-based training, including yoga, stretching, dance and music. Activities will have shorter timeframes with frequent breaks to build success and exercise not only our bodies, but our minds.

The location itself is also accessible, including a single-story level entrance (no stairs or elevators) with a beautiful large window facing the Danforth, 1 fully accessible washroom and a second standard washroom also available. We have a small, fully accessible kitchenette where we will offer inclusive meal prep and cooking activities. The neighbourhood itself is lovely with many shops along the Danforth, parkettes and Monarch Park just 2 blocks south. A TTC/Wheel trans bus stop is located just steps outside the door and street parking is available for others.

At this time, if you feel that someone you support would benefit from this type of program or meets the basic needs requirements for a transition to the Polaris program, we would like to discuss this opportunity with you. Although we do understand that change is difficult, we can assure you that that a high level of care and attention will be available in the Polaris program.

Katie Stoddart, a long-time supervisor at Pegasus, is leading this program and has received intensive training to be able to support this specific population. She is open to all questions about Polaris and can be reached during work hours at 416-990-2595 or kstoddart@pegasustoronto.ca

We are truly excited about this new endeavour for Pegasus and would appreciate you spreading the word about it for anyone you feel is appropriate.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
