During this 5 week program, participants will develop the basic skills needed to transition to adulthood or independent living. Topics will include: healthy living, nutrition/meal preparation, personal hygiene, domestic skills such as laundry and cleaning, shopping/budgeting, and social etiquette. Throughout the program, participants will have the opportunity to develop friendships and social skills with peers. Each week, participants will attend a centre-based learning session and a community-based experience session, allowing them to have the chance to learn the skills and practice them in a real-world setting.
Each participant will choose one “accountability partner” who can assist in generalizing and practicing the skills in the home and community.
The aim of this program is to empower participants to gain independence and confidence, and connect with their community.
This program is suitable for you if:
- You are motivated to attend
- Independent toileting skills
- Can learn in a group setting with minimal redirection
