ABA Parent Training: Building Independence in Daily Living starts Jan 10!

ABA Parent Training: Building Independence in Daily Living Skills at Bryan’s Place Special Needs Center. This supportive and hands-on workshop is designed to help families learn practical strategies to build independence at home.

Dates:

  • January 10, 17, and 31 (Saturdays)
  • Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EST
  • Location: 2238 Dundas St West #102, Toronto, ON M6R 1Y8

About the Workshop

Led by Andrea Rios, M.Ed., BCBA, R.B.A. (Ont.), a highly experienced Behavior Analyst working in the field since 2008, this training focuses on evidence-based tools that promote independence, dignity, and success for individuals with special needs.

Andrea has over 15 years of experience designing individualized programs, parent training, and staff development—always prioritizing safety, empowerment, and meaningful outcomes for children and families.

Community Living Ontario Publishes Two New Resources on Human Trafficking

To mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, Community Living Ontario posted two new documents – a short policy brief on Ontario’s anti-human trafficking strategy, and a longer resource that reviews recent research on people’s vulnerability to abuse and trafficking.  
 
While Ontario has recently made strides that will help victims of human trafficking, there is much more to do. Unfortunately, the province will not make a dent in rates of human trafficking until income supports are drastically improved, and until our approach to decision-making support for people with intellectual disabilities is revolutionized.

This month, we are pleased to welcome The Plan Institute to discuss: The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) which is a new non-taxable benefit of up to $200/month for eligible working age adults. For people on ODSP, the CDB is exempt and won’t change your eligibility for the provincial program. Our 18 + Independent living program at Sunflower Developmental Services was designed to assist individuals with intellectual delays to gain the Life & Social Skills they need to live on their own.

Individuals can now register to join this year long program & receive 1:1 coaching, adopted programming, that helps them meet their goals & independent living plan.
