Scarborough Residential Alternatives Group are parents of developmentally disabled young adults. Because there are almost no funded residential places available for our children, we are examining ways to create our own residential alternatives for lifelong living arrangements. We are determined to successfully create the best possible living arrangements for our children, using all resources, governmental and otherwise, that are available to us. In addition to his financial services expertise, Ron has held senior leadership positions in the not-for-profit sector and continues to consult with selected agencies. He has close ties to professionals in the disability sector and has participated in a number of committees and working groups, focusing on Independent Facilitation and Person Directed Planning. Ron is a financial services professional working with people with disabilities and their supporting family members.

In this session, John Lord will describe how an independent facilitator can assist you in building a meaningful life in community. John will also outline how a new organization in Kitchener-Waterloo is helping people create homes that are personally rewarding for them. John has published widely about community alternatives. His most well-known book is Pathways to Inclusion: Building a New Story with People and Communities. His most recent co-authored book is Facilitating an Everyday Life, a book about independent facilitation, which will be available to purchase at the workshop.
