My name is Sandra Essex. I have three rooms available for rent at 700 Paisley Road, Unit 21, Guelph, Ontario. I have purchased the town home to provide housing for my developmentally challenged 59 year old brother. Tom has lived his entire life with our Mother. Sadly she is 85 years old and no longer able to care for him. We have been unsuccessful the last two years finding acceptable housing so made the decision to purchase a town home for him and find compatible roommates with similar abilities and skills. The rent and utility fee must cover all costs. This is not a student rental. The only student I would consider is someone enrolled in a college or university program who is considering work supporting those with developmental disabilities.

There are four bedrooms and a full bathroom upstairs, and one bedroom on the main level. There is a fully finished family room, full bathroom and laundry facilities in the lower level. The kitchen and combined dining and sitting area is on the main level. There is an outdoor fenced in patio area. The unit is currently under renovation and will be ready December 1, 2019.

The largest bedroom is $575 per month. The three smaller rooms are $550 a month. Utilities are an additional $50 a month initially. Cable is included. This may change in subsequent years depending on the usage. Our hope is that tenants will use the utilities as efficiently as possible to keep their costs low.

Tom is my brother and one of the tenants. He works full time, primarily at night, as a security guard for G4S. He keeps to himself, likes to watch TV and is very friendly even though he is a loner. Tom is a smoker but has never been allowed to smoke in the house. Due to this unit being a shared space, smoking is only allowed outside on the patio. Pets are also not allowed due to allergies. Tom has completed three life skills training courses with Independent Hearts in Guelph. He has a support worker that comes in 6 to 8 hours a week to assist him with managing a home and life skills development. I also work closely with Tom and will be at the home regularly.

There is only one parking spot and it is not available. I may be able to arrange for a second parking space if required but it would be an additional cost.

If you know someone looking to make this their permanent home, please contact me at 647-835-3566. We are at the unit most days working on the renovation. If you would like to come and see it, please let me know however keep in mind that it is under construction.
