Dating is also a huge issue for everyone with disabilties it’s a very popular topic that young adults and teenagers are talking about. Pippa check out our Community Living Toronto Youth Sessions also we are orgnizing a Social Fun Group for people with disabilties. In the Social Group we talk about Relationships and budgeting. I think this program will help your son a lot and also make new friends too. We also are putting together a Fun Group-Social Group that Karla and Mark is orgnizing.
I noticed a lot of people with disabilties come to the DSAT Dance Rock dances and get emotional to see their ex-boyfriends/boyfriends dancing with other young women they go to the side lines and cry. They are Volunteers and Staff Members to support people with disabilties at the Teen dances we have Chips and Juice. I think it is a great way to socialize and meet new friends at these dances go to http://www.dsat.ca/social-acti…..dance-rock

THE NORTH YORK REGION COOKING PROGRAM FOR ALL ADULTS AND TEENAGER’S WITH DISABILTY’S!!

My friend Amy Glass and I wanted to join the North York Region cooking class. We talked to our Mom’s and both of them signed us up by contacting Wendy Dyke. The North York cooking class is about learning about simple nutritious meals so the participants can learn to cook healthy and balanced meals with their Friends and Family at home. This course is goal focused with participant input, hands on learning, Canada’s food guide, and food and kitchen safety. All participants need to bring some of their own kitchen supplies.

And also before every participant comes to the North York region kitchen they need to wash their hands before cooking or preparing food. We welcome all adults with a disability in this cooking program 18+ and they need follow up with family or Support workers to practice what they learn in class. Each week participants helped to prepare foods by cutting vegetables and meat. We also learned to use the grill, the stove and oven to cook. Afterwards we all cleaned up. Everybody talked to each other about what they want to cook each week. We voted for what we wanted to cook every week and the meal that got the most votes was what we cooked.

The North York Cooking class ran every Wednesday from 4:30 to 7:00pm April 4 to May 30 2012. On the last evening we invited parents, family and friends to join us for dinner. I felt great about that evening because I helped to prepare for the meal. It was all of us that decided to invite guests on the last evening to celebrate learning to cook meals. Everyone enjoyed themselves and said the food was great.

The location is at North York employment training services kitchen, 1122 Finch Avenue West, Unit 16. Anyone interested in taking this cooking program is welcome come to join. It’s a lot of fun learning new cooking skills. You can contact Wendy Dyke if you are interested. There is an application form to sign.

Contact Wendy at 647-729-3627 or email wdyke@cltoronto.ca

See you soon in 2013/2014 for our next cooking session.

I am also an employee of The City Of Toronto Parks and Recreation Summer Preschool camp. I get to help with organizing the Preschool program’s in the summer fun activates the children are 3-6 years old. I also worked as an Usher at the Toronto Center for the Arts though the Youth to Work program that gave me this part time placement to work. The Toronto Center for the arts is closed until September 2012.

I go to different schools with Mia M.C Cowen and we play the game with children from Grade 2 up to high school. I help set up the game, I get all the papers together and ask questions. An example of a question is how can a person in a wheelchair play basketball and how can you make sure the person is included. I help with the friendship tree with the younger children and with the older children I help with the blind fold game I also help to clean up at the end.
