Alternatives to Guardianship

WHEN: April 30, 2026 at 7pm EDT

Thinking about how we support our family member with a developmental disability to make decisions for their future as they grow older is not easy. At P4P, we think a lot about planning being person-directed and how important it is for people to have choice and control in their own lives.

Join us on April 30, 2026 at 7pm EDT for the Alternatives to Guardianship webcast as we discuss the implications and drawbacks of guardianship and explore decision-making alternatives in Ontario.

A live Q&A session will follow the webcast featuring experts with extensive experience helping families handle issues around decision making, legal capacity, and a person’s rights.

What’s in it for you:

  • Understanding where guardianship might or might not be necessary.
  • Overview of decision-making alternatives in Ontario.
  • Insights into alternative ways of thinking about a person’s ability and right to make their own decisions.
  • Identifying the difference between health care and financial decision-making.
  • Review of the drawbacks to guardianship.
  • A live Q&A to address your questions.
