Tammy McCauley from now Lumenus, has put together a list of resources; Here is the link: https://isolationresources.blogspot.com/
She said she will be updating it shortly.

If you’re not a member of Community Living Toronto, you may want to consider becoming one, as the Membership Coordinators send out emails to Members of all new resources they hear about.
Membership is done on a donation basis, so you can donate as much or as little as you would like/are able, & will receive a tax receipt for your donation. Link to membership application: https://cltoronto.ca/membership/

Lastly, I am a Person Directed Planner & if your son has not had a person directed plan, you may want to consider engaging in planning. That way what online programs he might be interested in could be identified and the appropriate resources could be sourced and provided.

      All the best with,
      Petra Asfaw

        Hello Bruce.
My name is Petra & I’m a planner with Community Living Toronto. I’m not sure if you’ve hear of person directed planning? It would allow Bruce, yourself, your wife, & whoever else Bruce might want to invite, to spend a couple of hours together (remotely now) going over what Bruce has done with his life up till now, his good qualities, likes & valued roles, what his dream for his future is, what supports he has in place & if they’ll continue, any barriers that might make it difficult to achieve his dreams, & then as a group, come up with an action plan that can help move his dream forward & reduce or eliminate some of the barriers. If there are any additional resources that we know of that might be of use, we would share those as well.
Such a plan could help further develop your current housing plans as well as ensuring that your son’s quality of life will continue in all areas of his life.
If you’re interested in speaking to me re. this I can be reached at 647-302-4818 pasfaw@cltoronto.ca

Are you aware of the Vulnerable Persons Registry with the Police Department? Petra

Hi Flounie & sorry to hear about the diabetes. You might want to try Surrey Place Centre again around this issue?

Have you updated DSO-TR & the Passport office re. this recent development?

I’ve heard good things about CORE & I’m sure they’d be willing to work with you to come up with a plan to ease your brother into the program gradually. (their ED is super!)
Also, I’m assuming you’ve checked the DSO-TR website for day programs? There’s also a list of fee-for-service programs on ConnectABILITY: https://connectability.ca/2012/10/12/fee-for-service/

Community Living Toronto’s Creative Village Studio on Dundas St. W., just west of Keele, might be a place to start?
Also, is your brother on the waiting list for a person directed plan with DSO-TR? Might be something to consider, to think about holistic planning for your brother’s future?

            Petra

Thanks SO much for, Laurie. I’ll have to refer parents to at life planning meetings. I love how natural & ‘normal’ it is & your sense of humour is greatly appreciated too! It makes so much sense to make it functional! Thanks again for, on behalf of all of us. Gratefully, Petra

Thanks Bonnie & you are right. That is why it is so important to review plans on an ongoing basis and to see if famiies need more support.
We look at them as ‘living documents’ that should be flexible enough to change as life does.

With a new year approaching, it might be a good time to consider planning. While you’re getting together with family and friends, you might want to bring the idea up & see who might be interested in participating. You might be pleasantly surprised!

Remember, we can plan on evenings & weekends, wherever the person would feel most comfortable, and now with technology, folks can join in via conference calls or by Skype.

So Season’s Greetings to all & consider planning in 2013 as life is short so it’s important to get those dreams down so that they can be worked on & ultimately realized! :)
