Sounds like he’s getting ready to transition out of highschool. Is that the case?
ConnectABILITY has great resources for families and educators on the Off to School page in the Kids section. You will find information on IPRCs, IEPs and advocating for your child’s rights within the school system. There’s also some good tips on how to get your child ready to start school and, for older children, how to make the transition to life after school. Make sure to check it out!
Hi, There’s a good workshop on ConnectABILITY on this topic. Go to https://connectability.ca/2010/09/25/family-literacy-2/ I would also suggest having the school put in a referral for a consultation with an Occupational Therapist. The OT will be able to make suggestions on how to improve his fine motor skills and attention span. Often children have difficulty staying seated. The OT will also make suggestions around what you can do to help him stay seated longer.
Hi, you can also try private funding to hire your own Speech and Language Pathologist. There are a number of sources, such as Presidents Choice. You can find information about these funding sources at http://www.choiceschangelives.ca/resources.html
